Artist Statement
As an artist, I strive to capture the essence of the human experience in my work. With each passing year, I have come to realize that we all navigate through similar circles of life, experiencing a myriad of emotions and interactions that often go unnoticed. It is through my art that I seek to bring these unspoken moments to light, creating a visual expression of the depth of human emotion and the beauty of our existence. My process has evolved over the years, becoming more structured and intentional. I begin by collecting ideas and references, constantly sketching and practicing to sharpen my skills. Each painting starts with a rough sketch, followed by thumbnail sketches to explore different compositions.
Artist Biography
I am a Kolkata-based artist who has been working in the field of Visual Arts for the past seven years. I completed my four-year diploma in Fine Arts from Birla Academy of Art and Culture, where I honed my skills and developed my unique style.My work can be described as narrative contemporary realism, where I specialize in using oil and charcoal to explore the effects of light on the natural landscape. I also enjoy working with ink and watercolor, as it allows me to establish a narrative and tell stories I observe daily.I started exhibiting in group shows at the age of 19 and sold my first professional artwork, which was a significant moment in my journey as an artist. Since then, I have exhibited in many art galleries, cultural centers, and art festivals in Kolkata and Mumbai, showcasing my work to a wider audience.One of the highlights of my career was when my artwork "Clarity 2" was selected by The Art Society of India for its 105th Annual Exhibition 2023 at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, giving me nationwide recognition for my talent and dedication to my craft. I am grateful for these opportunities to share my art with others and continue to grow as an artist.
Artist Inspiration
I find inspiration from the interaction of light with the objects it falls upon. The color of light changes throughout the day, it's magical in its subtle transformation. My professor would often say, just observe everything around you. Do not assume you know it, learn to see the things the way they are. I took It up like a game, the more I played the better I saw. I started noticing how the light falls and interacts differently with each surface. Imagine switching o all the lights and then trying to see the colors. It's pitch-black right? Light is all there is to our existence, and it is this light that inspires me to express how I feel.
