Artist Statment
Debaashree Mavani’s practice spans landscapes, portraits, cityscapes and other experimental works. Mastering mediums such as charcoal, ink, and oil, she also pushes the boundaries of traditional mediums by using unconventional materials like leaves, aluminium foil and more into her process. Her work is characterized by a deep exploration of the subject, its relevance, impact and interaction with the surroundings.
These materials are not merely tools, but active participants in the process—bringing with them their own textures, histories, and unpredictability. Through them, she seeks to extend her visual language
Through her evolving practice, Mavani continues to investigate the intersection of traditional subjects and experimental approach, seeking to capture the unseen energies of her subjects.
Artist Biography
Debashree Mavani is a Kolkata-based visual artist. She has earned her Diploma in Fine Arts from Swar Sangam (A Birla Institute of Art and Culture). Her technical proficiency and unique conceptual approach have earned her recognition in several prestigious national platforms. Notable achievements include being a Selected Artist for Abir’s ‘First Take’ (2024) and having her work featured in the 105th Annual Exhibition by The Art Society of India at the iconic Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2023). Additionally, she was a selected artist for the Ami Arts Festival in Kolkata (2022).
